Hi Ashburton Supporters
We wish you a Merry Christmas; We wish you a Merry Christmas;
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Good tidings we bring to you and your kin;
Good tidings for Christmas and a Happy New Year.
On this pennant day, Oh Little club of Ashburton, Sides Two and Four emerged victorious, Side One and Side Three coming home from long road trips without presents.
Side One had a long journey to City of Heidelberg right next to the old repat hospital where some of our bowlers have booked themselves in for recuperation after a mauling. A few Ashies really had Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire. The only winning rink was Ken Lawrence with Ian Lee, Heinz K, and David Wight. Ken's rink was up 18 shots but as two other Ashy rinks also won by 18 shots, Ken and Co may not be rink of the week.
Good King Kenceslas looked out
On the green so even
Where many shots lay round about
But no pens, he's a griev'n
For Side One there is very little Joy to the World as they remain in 10th place on the table.
Side Two played 4th placed Montmorency on our bottom green. The green timed at 14.5 and ran beautifully all day. Ashburton had tight contests across all four rinks, have a look at those close and low scores. After 84 ends Ashburton won by 19 shots with 3.5 rinks up. Alas Ron Price and Co let slip one competition point in the run home. Ron said afterwards, All I want for Christmas is my Two rink points.
It's Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas for Side two which, with this great win, have jumped from 6th into 4th place. However, it is a tight section, 3rd placed Bayswater is on 115 points, Ashburton in 4th on 113 points, 5th placed Montmorency on 111 points and 6th placed Templestowe on 106 points. Ashy needs to keep winning or it will slip quickly. But we can hope now for a finals chance, if we play well in the new year. O Come, all ye Faithful.
Side 3 followed a bright star in the sky to bushy Eltham without any cheer or beer, going real close, to just lose by 6 shots overall. Bronte Brennand, with Lyn Harper, Max Jones and Andrew Eyers fought the good fight to win their rink by 18 shots, God Rest you Merry Gentlemen (and Lyn). Side 3 remains in 9th place.
Side 4, in 9th, beat 4th placed Ferntree Gully on Ashburton top green with 15 players. Ashy 4 came home strongly to win four rinks and record a 35.5 shots margin. This is a great win, though Ashy remain 9th with just 2 wins, it does make for a Merry Christmas, Santa Claus is Coming to Town for our victorious 4th Side. In Side 4 David Brown, with Keith Lillywhite, the indestructible Joyce Cape and John McArthur also won by 18 shots.
Side 5 had a bye.
The next pennant matches are 24 days away on Tuesday 14 January, so enjoy those two times Twelve Days of Christmas, Jingle Bells to all.
